Imperial Pie With Sauerkraut


  • 250 g shredded sauerkraut
  • 1 full tablespoon pork fat
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 – 4 tablespoons rye flour
  • spices: pepper, paprika…
  • 2 – 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

For dressing:

  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 2 – 3 cloves of garlic


First you should fry sauerkraut on a little oil and water until soften (about one hour). You can do that in the evening to shorten your preparation time in the morning. At the end of frying sauerkraut add spices. Then whisk the eggs in a bowl, add baking powder and flour. Add sauerkraut in the mixture, stir and pour into greased baking dish and align. Bake in preheated oven on 200 degrees. In a meantime mix sour cream with mashed garlic and pour over the pie. Put back in the oven and bake for more five minutes. Sprinkle with more pepper and enjoy.
