Tufahije - Stuffed Apples


  • 6 apples
  • 1 lemon
  • 20 g butter
  • 100 g nuts
  • 50 g cranberries
  • 50 g raisins
  • fructose
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg


Walnut stuffed apples or tufahije (singular: tufahija) are a quintessential Bosnian dessert recipe. Wash apples well, then peel them. Cut out the core as if you’re making small cups out of each apple. Make sure to take out all seeds, and try not to drill through to the other side. (Use a grapefruit spoon for easier coring.) Mix in a bowl nuts, fructose, raisins, cranberries, lemon zest, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stuff eggs with prepared filling, and put on the top of each apple a bit of butter. Sprinkle with lemon juice and a little water. Put the cover with the stem and bake in the oven for 20 minutes at 200 degrees.
